A Sloppy Joe is one of those dishes that everyone has an opinion about. Too sweet. Too ketchup-forward. Too much like something from a can. Levi’s fix is simple: pull out the red sauce and put Soul Sauce in its place.

The Mild’s apple cider vinegar base gives the meat mixture a brightness that store-bought sauce can’t touch. The natural sweetness rounds it out without going cloying. You still get the messy sandwich you came for — it just tastes like someone actually cooked it.

“Use it in place of your red sauces. That’s it. That’s the whole move.”

This is one of those recipes that earns you a reputation at the table. People will ask what you did differently. The answer is one bottle. Keep it as simple or layer it up — Soul Sauce works either way.

SkillBeginner — if you can brown meat, you can make this
  1. Brown your ground beef or turkey in a skillet over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add diced onion and bell pepper if using. Cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Add Mr. Levi’s Mild Soul Sauce to taste — start with ½ cup and adjust. Stir to combine.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer 8–10 minutes until thickened and flavors come together.
  5. Taste and adjust. More Soul Sauce for depth. A pinch of brown sugar if you want it slightly sweeter.
  6. Spoon onto toasted buns. Serve immediately. Have napkins ready.
